Spoiler Alert!!! Angela Bassett wasn’t happy about the Black Panther: Wakanda Forever plot twist.
As Wakanda comes to terms with the death of T’Challa, Bassett stars as Queen Ramonda, who has to step up to protect Wakanda from underwater king Namor.
Halfway through the movie Queen Ramonda is murdered by King Namor. Bassett says she called Ryan Coogler, the movie’s director, immediately after reading the script. “I objected. Yeah, I was like, ‘Ryan, what are you doing? Why? You will rue the day! You will rue the demise of [Ramonda]. People are gonna be so upset.’”
Coogler soothed Bassett’s fear telling her, “Angela, I know, I know, but look, to die is not really to die in this world. It doesn’t really have to mean that.”
