After the 7.1 magnitude earthquake devastated central Mexico, leaving more than 200 (in counting) dead including 21 school children, shock down power lines, brought down over 44 buildings completely to the ground. While rescue efforts are still ongoing, many are wondering how to help without being there.
It's hard to figure out where to donate. One of my favorite secure nonprofit is called TOPOS (mole is Spanish, as in the animal that specializes in digging). TOPOS is a rescue brigade made up of volunteers which was created after the earthquake hit Mexico City in 1985. You can donate through PayPal (select the USD dollar donation option) and enter donation amount, remember American dollars really make a difference, anything will help. TOPOS.MX direct link bellow.
This is what Mexico is about. 32 years after the last big earthquake, Mexico returned to a strong city. Today they will do it again. The compassion in this video makes my heart swell with pride and renews my faith in humanity. I don't like that it takes a tragedy, but all the people in the street forming human chains to take out the rumble and debris is an example of humans at their best. Volunteering, saving lives, comforting people who are sad. The people of Mexico have shown the world that they are strong and will survive this. THIS is Mexico everyone. THIS is the Mexico I have always known. #FuerzaMexico #SiSePuede 🙏🏻🇲🇽🇲🇽🇲🇽
