Federal prosecutors have accused rapper Lil Durk of orchestrating the appearance of Kanye West at his trial as part of a strategy to gain public support. The government argues that West's presence was a calculated move to influence public perception, according to DancehallMag. This accusation comes amid Lil Durk's ongoing efforts to secure bond while awaiting his VICAR trial, scheduled for August 2027.
Prosecutors also allege that Lil Durk paid supporters to rally outside the courthouse to sway jurors by creating an illusion of community backing. His bond proposal includes royalties, publishing rights, and a $1 million appearance bond.
Lil Durk, whose real name is Durk Banks, was arrested in October 2024 in connection with a murder-for-hire plot tied to the 2022 killing of Saviay’a Robinson, a cousin of rapper Quando Rondo. He has pleaded not guilty and remains in custody without bond. If convicted, he could face life in prison, though the death penalty is not an option, as reported by Complex.
The defense argues that the support from celebrities like JAY-Z and J. Cole, along with financial backing, demonstrates Lil Durk's strong community ties. However, prosecutors view this celebrity involvement as an attempt to manipulate the case's perception.
Judge Michael W. Fitzgerald will decide on the bond issue, with no indication yet of his decision. Until then, Lil Durk remains in custody as both sides continue to debate the implications of his celebrity support.
