New Orleans Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan will miss the season opener against the Detroit Lions due to a hamstring injury. The 37-year-old, entering his 16th NFL season, was ruled out on Wednesday (September 9) by head coach Kellen Moore after being sidelined for over a month. This marks only the third game Jordan has missed in his career, and just the second due to injury.
Jordan, who last practiced on August 6, is considered week-to-week as he recovers. Despite not being placed on injured reserve, the Saints are monitoring his progress closely. Moore stated, "Cam's going to do everything possible to play... he's progressing well."
Jordan's absence is significant for the Saints, as he led the team with 10.5 sacks last season and has accumulated 132 career sacks, making him the franchise's all-time leader. He is also just one sack away from surpassing NFL legends Lawrence Taylor and Leslie O'Neal for 15th place on the all-time list.
In addition to Jordan, the Saints' injury report includes running back Alvin Kamara, who returned to practice in a limited capacity after a knee injury, and rookie tight end Oscar Delp and running back Audric Estimé, who did not practice.
The Saints are set to face the Lions at Ford Field in Detroit on Sunday (September 13).
