DaBaby has responded to backlash over the hefty prices of his new restaurant's chicken and waffles.
The North Carolina native celebrated the grand opening of his brand-new eatery, No Knife Chicken & Waffles, in Charlotte on Sunday, September 6. According to the Charlotte Observer, the line to get into the restaurant wrapped around the block, and the food is good. Unfortunately, people weren't feeling the prices. After critics flooded social media with their opinions about the $15 to $45 waffle meals, DaBaby was asked to share his thoughts about the restaurant's pricy menu.
"They shoulda went to Waffle House," he said while on "Positively Charlotte." "Waffle House has something for you."
DaBaby says patrons can expect "an elevated dining experience" with waffles made with more than just flour and water. A plain waffle is $15, while specialty waffles like Sweet Potato and Peach Cobbler will cost you $25. You can add six chicken wings to any plate for $10, and the signature meal, which includes a cornbread waffle with four chicken wings, collard greens, and mac and cheese, costs $45.
"$15 for a plain waffle?!" one person on Instagram wrote.
"Designer waffles , if you can't afford exotic waffles get a regular one," another person commented.
The "Pop Dat Thang" rapper said he came up with the concept for the restaurant about three years ago. He explained that he came up with every item on the menu but gave props to the head chef, who helped make the dishes even better.
“Every single item on the menu comes right from this big head,” he explained.
