Denzel Ward, a cornerback for the Cleveland Browns, has become a minority investor in the Cleveland Guardians. The 29-year-old Ward, who hails from Macedonia, Ohio, joins the Guardians' ownership group alongside fellow Ohio native and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. The ownership group is led by Paul Dolan and David Blitzer.
Ward expressed his excitement about his new role, stating, "Cleveland is my hometown. I'm so blessed to be able to show up for this city on the field and now as a part of the Guardians organization." He also expressed gratitude to the Dolan family and Blitzer for the opportunity to contribute to the community.
Ward's decision to invest in the Guardians reflects his commitment to his hometown. He has spent his entire NFL career with the Browns since being drafted as the No. 4 overall pick in 2018. Ward is a five-time Pro Bowler and has been a standout player both on and off the field.
The Guardians, valued at approximately $1.7 billion, are currently in second place in the AL Central division. The team last appeared in the World Series in 2016 and won their last championship in 1948. Ward and Kelce hope their involvement will bring renewed success to the franchise.
The Guardians plan to honor Ward at Progressive Field on Tuesday, September 15, when they face the Chicago White Sox.
