The Fast & Furious franchise officially has an end date.
Fast Forever, the 11th and final film in the long-running saga, is expected to start filming later this year and hit theaters in March 2028. Speaking with Variety at the 25th anniversary screening of the The Fast and the Furious on August 17, star Vin Diesel explained that a lot of work went in to creating a script that he said was "worthy" for the finale of the beloved franchise.
"We start shooting in December, if I can make good on the request from the studio," he said. "I'm in a good place, though. I had to go through four sets of writers, four years of development, to get to something that I felt would be worthy of a finale. And when I read the script a couple of weeks ago, [I cried]."
Diesel got "personal" with fans inside the screening when sharing his reaction to reading the script.
"It was after four different writers, four years of development, and after I read the script, halfway through, one tear. By the end of the script that we crafted and worked so hard to make right for you after four years, I was crying," he said. "I couldn't hold it back, and I had to tell everyone. And my sister said, 'No more crying, bro.' So I just want to say that sometimes, even the toughest guys in the world need to cry."
Fast Forever will serve as the follow-up to 2023's Fast X. The series began with The Fast and the Furious in 2001, spawning nine, soon-to-be 10, sequels and features a star-powered cast including Diesel, the late Paul Walker, Michelle Rodriguez, Sung Kang, Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Helen Mirren and many more.
Fast Forever hits theaters March 17, 2028.
