The Pittsburgh Steelers' secondary received a significant boost today as veteran defensive back Jalen Ramsey was activated from the physically unable to perform (PUP) list. Ramsey, who is 31 years old, had been sidelined due to a knee injury sustained during the offseason. His return is timely as the Steelers await cornerback Joey Porter Jr.'s recovery from a back issue.
Steelers head coach Mike McCarthy confirmed the news, stating that Ramsey's return to the practice field marks a positive development for the team. Last season, Ramsey started all 17 games, recording 88 tackles, eight passes defensed, an interception, and three sacks.
Alongside Ramsey, first-round rookie offensive lineman Max Iheanachor also returned to practice after recovering from a neck injury. The Steelers are preparing for their preseason finale against the Buffalo Bills on Thursday night (August 27).
As reported by Yahoo Sports, McCarthy expressed optimism about the health of his defensive backs, including Joey Porter Jr., who has been dealing with a back injury. Porter Jr.'s absence from training camp has sparked speculation about ongoing contract negotiations, as noted by Behind the Steel Curtain.
The Steelers' secondary has faced challenges during training camp, with several key players missing practice time. However, McCarthy remains confident that both Ramsey and Porter Jr. will be ready for the season opener against the Atlanta Falcons.
