The New England Patriots have traded wide receiver Kayshon Boutte to the Houston Texans in exchange for safety Jaylen Reed and a seventh-round draft pick in 2028. This move comes after the Patriots acquired A.J. Brown from the Philadelphia Eagles, making Boutte expendable. The 24-year-old Boutte recorded 33 catches for 551 yards and six touchdowns with New England last season.
Boutte, a former sixth-round draft pick, found himself facing increased competition for targets in the Patriots' revamped wide receiver lineup, which includes Brown and Romeo Doubs. The Texans, who lost wide receiver Jayden Higgins for the season due to an ACL injury, were in need of a receiver and saw Boutte as a potential fit. According to Heavy.com, Houston had made exploratory trade calls for Boutte, despite initial hesitation due to his size and the Patriots' high asking price.
The trade provides Boutte with an opportunity to contribute significantly to the Texans' offense, especially with Higgins out for the season. AOL.com reported that Boutte's move to Houston could allow him to surpass his previous season's performance in the final year of his contract.
While Boutte's departure from New England was anticipated due to his contract situation and the team's depth at wide receiver, the Patriots had been reluctant to trade him to an AFC contender. However, the deal with the Texans was finalized, providing both teams with assets they need for the upcoming season.
