A 31-year-old American Airlines flight attendant, Kellie Melinda Williams, was found dead on Hollywood Beach, Florida, after what authorities say was a suspected boat strike while she was snorkeling. Her body was discovered by two fishermen in the surf near North Boardwalk and Thomas Street, according to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC).
Officials confirmed that Williams' injuries were consistent with being struck by a vessel. Investigators believe she was snorkeling or diving near Dr. Von D. Mizell-Eula Johnson State Park before the incident, but details about when she went missing are still unclear. Her remains were brought ashore by the tide, several miles from where she was last believed to be in the water.
The FWC is leading the investigation and has urged anyone with information or who witnessed the incident to contact the Wildlife Alert Hotline at 888-404-FWCC (3922). In an official statement, the FWC extended its condolences, saying, "The FWC would like to extend its deepest sympathies to the family and loved ones of Kellie Williams during this difficult time."
American Airlines confirmed Williams' identity and expressed sorrow in a statement: "We are deeply saddened by the loss of our colleague. Our thoughts and support are with her family, loved ones and colleagues at this time."
Williams had recently moved to Florida from California, and her sudden death has shocked both her family and colleagues. The investigation is ongoing, and no further details have been released about potential suspects or the boat involved.
