In a dramatic rescue on Friday (May 15), Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety crews responded to a fire at a two-story home in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Officer Michael Arnett caught a baby dropped from a window by the child's mother, who was trapped on the second floor as smoke billowed from the house.

The incident, captured on body camera footage, shows the mother leaning out of the window holding her baby. As the fire engulfed the porch, Arnett stood below, urging the mother to drop the child. "Hey, ma'am! Hey, throw me your kid!" Arnett called out. The mother dropped the baby into Arnett's arms, and the child was quickly taken to safety by a nearby equipment operator.

Firefighters then used a ground ladder to rescue the mother, ensuring both were safe. Neither the mother nor the baby sustained injuries, though they were taken to a hospital for precautionary evaluation. The fire, which caused significant damage to the home, is still under investigation.

Officer Arnett has been hailed as a hero for his quick actions. Reflecting on the event, he stated, "The first thing I would do was get all the occupants out of the house. Property can be replaced. Obviously, lives can't." The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety confirmed that all other occupants evacuated safely.

The dramatic footage and Arnett's heroic actions have drawn widespread attention, highlighting the bravery and dedication of first responders in emergency situations.
