A dramatic high-speed chase in Fond du Lac County ended with a car leaping over another vehicle and landing in a field. On Saturday morning (May 9), the Wisconsin State Patrol requested assistance from the Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Office during a traffic stop on Interstate 41. The driver, identified as Dewayne Stokes, had a felony warrant in Kenosha County.
As deputies arrived, Stokes fled the scene. The pursuit continued through various roads before returning to I-41. At the Winnebago Street off-ramp, Stokes lost control, drove into a ditch, and went airborne over a passing car. His vehicle landed in a field, and he attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended by deputies.
The chase covered approximately 4.5 miles.
Stokes, a 44-year-old from Milwaukee, was out on a $5,000 signature bond for operating a vehicle without the owner's consent. He sustained minor injuries and was treated before being booked into the Fond du Lac County Jail. He faces multiple charges, including fleeing, first-degree recklessly endangering safety, and felony bail jumping. The State Patrol also recommends charges of felon in possession of a firearm and possession of marijuana.
An initial court appearance for Stokes is scheduled for Friday (May 15).
