Isaiah Rashad went through a lot in his personal life over the past few years, and now he's opening up about his experiences on his new album.
The Tennessee native pulled up to The Breakfast Club on Tuesday, May 5, to talk about his third studio album, It's Been Awful. The album includes collaborations with Dominic Fike, Julian Sintonia and SZA, who appears in one of the album's stand-out tracks, "Boy In Red." Charlamagne Tha God began the conversation by asking about the meaning behind the title of Rashad's album. Charla believes it sounds more like a confession of the rapper's thoughts about his life and the music industry.
"It's a culmination of everything," Rashad replied. "I'm just a human being at the end of it. I went through some s**t to an extent, but it was between being an artist and the expectations of that and the deconstruction of my masculinity; it's been a lot of getting to know myself."
Isaiah Rashad's personal life turned into a public spectacle in 2022 after someone leaked a video of him engaged in sexual activity with two men. A few months later, Rashad addressed the video in an interview with Joe Budden and said he identifies as "sexually fluid." Since then, the 34-year-old has been able to take a step back and love himself again. The situation also inspired him to reexamine his music career. Rashad initially hesitated to talk about what happened on his previous album, The House Is Burning. He ultimately felt more comfortable being honest about himself with his audience on his new project.
