Guests at Six Flags New England were forced to evacuate a popular roller coaster on foot after the ride stalled mid-cycle, leaving passengers stranded high above the ground.
Superman: The Ride, one of the park's signature attractions, failed to complete its normal cycle, prompting staff to initiate evacuation procedures. Dramatic video footage captured by visitors and shared with media outlets shows a line of passengers carefully descending a steep staircase along the edge of the coaster's tracks, guided by park employees wearing orange vests.
According to the park's statement, trained employees safely unloaded all guests from the ride. "Our team was in constant contact with the guests, and all riders were invited to return to the park," the statement read.
The coaster reportedly stalled as it approached its highest point. According to the Six Flags website, Superman: The Ride reaches a maximum elevation of 208 feet, travels at speeds up to 77 miles per hour, and covers 5,400 feet of track during its 90-second cycle.
One TikTok user who claimed to have been on the ride during the incident commented that passengers were stuck for approximately an hour. "The chain got stuck. The wind up there is unreal," the user wrote, adding that everyone received refunds and two free tickets.
The theme park has not provided additional details about the malfunction or indicated when Superman: The Ride will resume normal operations.
