Ice Cube has shut down all chatter about him leaving the movie industry.
The revered rapper and actor had time to address a rumor that was spread by a parody account on X. In a post it shared on Tuesday, April 6, @HoopsCrave claimed Ice Cube said that he's "done with Hollywood" because "they keep offering me the same angry Black man role.” The post was viewed over 6 million times and quickly sparked discussions about his legacy in film. Others wondered if the Compton native actually said he was quitting. Less than two hours later, Ice Cube himself put the rumors to rest.
"Stop lying," he wrote.
The rumor about Ice Cube's departure from Hollywood inspired haters to bring up the criticism he received after his last film. Amazon Prime's War of the Worlds, which debuted on the streaming service last year, was shot during the pandemic in 2020 and released five years later. It debuted to harsh reviews and a zero percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The film was also given "Worst Picture" while Cube received "Worst Actor" at the 46th Razzie Awards.
Ice Cube has had a very active movie career since his debut in the 1991 film, Boyz n the Hood. He's starred in franchises like Anaconda and recently appeared in the comedic reboot with Paul Rudd and Jack Black. He also created his own comedies, like Friday and Barbershop. At this point, his film credits run longer than his discography.
Speaking of his music, Ice Cube recently dropped his 13th studio album, Man Up. The project holds 14 tracks, including fresh collaborations with Scarface and Quake Matthews. He recently announced his 420 On The Rocks show with Snoop Dogg, Too $hort, Czarface, Inspectah Deck of Wu-Tang Clan, 7L and Esoteric. The show is going down on April 20 in Colorado. Tickets are on sale now.
