Beauty is pain, and Doja Cat definitely suffered for her iconic cat-inspired look at the 2023 Met Gala.
The Vogue April cover star revealed on The Run-Through with Vogue podcast that the beaded gown and large diamond headpiece she wore to the fashion spectacle were the perfect combination to give her a "horrible f---ing ice pick headache."
For her Met Gala debut, Doja wore a hooded Oscar de la Renta gown covered in "like tens of thousands" of beads as well as a Messika headpiece with a 17-carat diamond, making the look even more over the top with feline prosthetics. The "Gorgeous" singer's eye-popping ensemble was inspired by late fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld's cat Choupette as Lagerfeld was the honoree for that year's event, per People.
"The beads weigh a certain amount after a while, plus the fabric. You've also got lining, you've got all these things going on that make the dress so heavy," she said, explaining that while it felt fine and "fabulous," if a "little tight," at first, the "pressure" continued to build throughout the night.

While some people may prefer to prioritize comfort over breaking fashion barriers, the Vie musician has historically gone the opposite direction; though, she is now learning to find the right balance.
"As far as certain things like comfortability, that's something I'm trying to learn. It's weird. It's like, some people just have an inclination to be like, I don't wanna wear that because it hurts. I don't have that. I will wear knives all over my body if it looks good," she said, adding, "I need to take into account my mind when I'm wearing something. How do I feel in it physically? I think sometimes it's okay to be uncomfortable. Sometimes it's great to be uncomfortable. Sometimes it's better to be a lot more comfortable."
In her new cover story with Vogue, Doja opened up her experience with therapy and even revealed its connection to the career she would have if she weren't a musician.
