Alabama Crimson Tide point guard Aden Holloway was found with 2.1 pounds of marijuana at his apartment at the time of his arrest Monday (March 16) morning, according to charging documents obtained by ESPN on Tuesday (March 17).

The amount found is 0.1 pounds less than the 2.2-pound limit that can result in a drug trafficking charge in adherence with Alabama state laws. Holloway reportedly told police "he only smokes" when the large amount of marijuana was found in his possession, though he was charged with a class C felony drug possession charge, "not for personal use," and a failure to affix a tax stamp charge, with both felonies carrying a maximum sentence of 10 years and jail and a $15,000 fine.

Holloway was reportedly "removed from campus" and is absent from the team ahead of its NCAA Men's Basketball March Madness Tournament opening-round game against Hofstra at Benchmark International Arena in Tampa on Friday (March 20). Alabama head coach Nate Oats confirmed that the team was preparing to play without Holloway for its opening-round game.

Holloway was previously involved in a traffic stop conducted by University of Alabama campus police, the spokesperson for the Tuscaloosa Police Department confirmed. The point guard averaged a career-best 16.8 points, 3.8 assists and 2.8 rebounds in 28.4 minutes per game during the 2025-26 season, ranking as the Tide's second leading scorer.
