The New York Jets are reportedly finalizing a trade sending quarterback Justin Fields to the Kansas City Chiefs, which is pending a physical, sources with knowledge of the situation confirmed to ESPN's Adam Schefter on Monday (March 16).

"Trade: the New York Jets are finalizing a deal that will send QB Justin Fields to the Kansas City Chiefs, pending a physical, per ESPN sources. Other teams were interested, but Fields’ preference was to go to Kansas City," Schefter wrote on his X account.

The Jets will reportedly receive the Chiefs' 2027 NFL Draft sixth-round pick, which has conditions, in exchange for Fields and now have 10 picks in the first six rounds, according to Schefter.

Fields signed a two-year, $40 million deal, which included $30 million guaranteed, to join the Jets last offseason. The former Ohio State standout went 2-7 as a starter, throwing for 1,259 yards, seven touchdowns and one interception on 128 of 204 passing, while also recording 383 yards and four touchdowns on 71 rushing attempts in 2025 before being benched midway through the season.

Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes underwent surgery to repair two torn ligaments in his left knee in December and his timeline for recovery is undetermined, however, Rick Burkholder, the Chiefs' vice president of sports medicine and performance, said it Mahomes could potentially be ready for Week 1 as a best-case scenario.
