A vehicle reportedly collided with the gate outside the White House at Connecticut and H Streets northwest, leading to both being temporarily shut down with police tape and a surge of law enforcement in the area, a D.C. Metropolitan Police Department spokesperson told CBS News' Sara Cook Wednesday (March 11) morning.
"A vehicle collided with the WH gate, at Connecticut and H Streets NW, an MPD spox tells @CBSNews," Cook wrote on her X account.
The driver of the vehicle was detained by Secret Service agents and is being questioned in connection with the incident, Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi confirmed to CBS News, adding that officers with the uniformed division were "looking into a suspicious vehicle."
"Various entrances and the streets are temporarily closed as teams conduct their work," Guglielmi said. "We will provide additional information once we get updated from officers later this morning."
