Eminem's grandmother, who was the mother of Debbie Nelson, has passed away.
According to a report TMZ published on Wednesday, March 11, the Detroit rapper's grandma, Betty Kresin, died at her home in Missouri. A source close to the family said Em's maternal grandmother succumbed to complications from breast cancer. Kresin passed away over a year after Eminem's mom, Debbie Nelson, died of lung cancer. Like Nelson, Kresin had a strained relationship with her grandson. During an interview with the UK-based outlet The Mirror, Kresin shamed Slim Shady over how he treated her and his mother.
"Neither his mother Debbie nor I can figure out what happened to this sweet, caring youngster," Kresin said at the time. "In just over 12 years he’s gone from telling me ‘Grandma I love you,’ to ‘Go to hell.' It just breaks my heart."
"I can't believe this is my Marshall, the same boy who used to come and sit on my lap," she added.
The 53-year-old artist recently became a grandparent himself. He reflected on the moment when he found out about his first grandson in the music video for his song "Temporary" in 2024. His daughter, Hailie Jade, revealed that she had given birth to her first child with husband Evan McClintock last year. The couple named their son Elliot Marshall McClintock in honor of Marshall Mathers.
As of this report, Eminem has not yet commented on his grandmother's death.
