A$AP Rocky debuted his new Ray-Ban collection by paying homage to Nas' role in the classic film Belly.
On Thursday, February 19, the Harlem native dropped a new commercial for his latest Metal collection. The ad begins with Nas walking up to the AWGE diner to link up with Flacko. Once he walks in, the Mass Appeal founder sits down with Rocky and catches up on his latest venture as Ray-Ban's new Creative Director. The Don't Be Dumb rapper proceeds to show him some fresh pieces from the Metal collection, which resemble the glasses Nas' character Sincere wore in Belly.
The commercial emulates Nas and the late DMX's infamous scene from Belly. The scene starts with Nas narrating as he walks into a diner in Harlem to meet with Tommy "Buns" Brown. DMX is dressed up in a suit and tie, just like Rocky is, and tells Nas his life is going in a whole new direction. The film came out in 1998, and it still influences Hip-Hop and fashion nearly three decades later.
A$AP Rocky has been leading the charge for Ray-Ban since he was appointed as the eyewear brand's first-ever creative director last year. He kicked things off by launching his "Next Generation" collection, which debuted during Paris Fashion Week last July. Rocky and his girlfriend, Rihanna, celebrated the launch at a Ray-Ban party following the premiere of his film Highest 2 Lowest.
