American Chloe Kim fell short of Winter Olympic history, finishing second in the snowboarding halfpipe final at the 2026 Milan Cortina Games on Thursday (February 12).

Kim finished with a score of 88.0, her highest score of three runs, to take silver behind Korea's Choi Ga-on, with Japan's Mitsuki Ono taking bronze. The two-time defending champion held the lead for the majority of the final before Ga-on scored a 90.0 on her final run.

Kim would've become the first snowboarder to win three consecutive gold medals and join fellow American Shaun White, who won gold in the men's event at the 2006 Torino, 2010 Vancouver and 2018 Pyeonchang Games, only other three-time Olympic snowboarding champion. White, who is working as a broadcaster for the 2026 Milan Cortina Games, was in attendance as a spectator for Kim's qualifying and final runs.

Kim entered Thursday's final as the leader, having landed an inverted backside 720, big switch straight air method, cab 1080 stalefish, frontside 900 and inverted indy 540 for a score of 90.25 during her qualifying run on Wednesday (February 11).
