ZeeTheWizard, a rising rap artist from Dallas, has passed away after he was shot on New Year's Day.
The 25-year-old rapper, born Zec’Qurie Fields, was booked to perform at the grand opening of a new strip club called Pink House in Dallas. According to local news outlets like the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, an altercation broke out involving ZeeTheWizard's crew, which resulted in gunfire. Fields was struck by bullets and was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he remained on life support. On Monday, January 5, the Dallas Police Department confirmed that Fields had died from his injuries.
“Zee was more than an artist," Fields' sister wrote on Instagram, per the Dallas Observer. "He was a light. He consistently encouraged people to stay positive, keep going, and choose hope even when life gets heavy. While we are devastated by this loss, we ask everyone who loved him to help carry that message forward, not only through his music, but through the way you treat each other, the way you show up for your people, and the way you choose love.”
ZeeTheWizard was a fairly new artist who's been dropping music since 2021. He dropped his first major project Hood Prophet with songs like "Made It Happen" with fellow Texas native Ziollionaire Doe. He reportedly signed a fresh record deal with Future's Freebandz label and received co-signs from the likes of Meek Mill, Rod Wave and Dallas' own BigXthaPlug. "The Largest" rapper was spotted at the strip club just before Zee was shot.
Rest in peace, ZeeTheWizard. Watch his "On The Radar" performance below.
