The Dallas Cowboys have waived cornerback Trevon Diggs, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported on Tuesday (December 30).

"The Cowboys have waived CB Trevon Diggs," Pelissero wrote on his X account. "Any team claiming Trevon Diggs would be responsible for his remaining $472,222 guaranteed game check this season. That makes it likely he clears waivers and then will become a free agent.

"My understanding is Diggs’ release was not a result of a specific incident. It was the culmination of multiple factors spread over time, including both performance and other elements. The team felt it was best for both Trevon and the Cowboys to move on at this point," Pelissero added.

Diggs, 27, signed a five-year, $97 million contract extension in 2023, having been selected as a first-team All-Pro in 2021 and a Pro Bowler in 2021 and 2022, but has been limited to just 21 games in the past three years due to multiple knee injuries. The former Alabama standout initially tore his left anterior cruciate ligament in practice in 2023, missed six games in 2024 due to an issue requiring a chondral graft in January and missed eight games this season due to a knee injury, as well as a concussion stemming from an at-home accident he later claimed happened while attempting to install a television mount.

Diggs' release was reported shortly after news that his brother, New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs, was reportedly facing felony strangulation or suffocation and misdemeanor assault and battery charges stemming from an incident that took place earlier this month, according to court documents obtained by Boston 25 News.
