Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill appeared to tease a departure in a post shared on his X account following reports that the team planned to bench quarterback Tua Tagovailoa for rookie Quinn Ewers.

Hill shared a gif from the television series Atlanta showing a man giving a peace-sign gesture before disappearing, along with a peace-sign emoji, on Wednesday (December 17). The post was shared minutes after ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that head coach Mike McDaniel planned to bench Tagovailoa for Ewers ahead of Sunday's (December 21) game against the Cincinnati Bengals.

"A major move in Miami: the Dolphins are benching QB Tua Tagovailoa and turning to Quinn Ewers as their new starting QB, per sources. Ewers’ first start comes Sunday vs. the Bengals," Schefter wrote on his X account.

Hill, who suffered a season-ending knee injury in September, had previously stated his intention to depart from the franchise while speaking to reporters after the Dolphins' 2024 season-ending loss to the New York Jets and 8-9 finish in January.

“I’m opening the door. I’m out bro. It was great playing here, but at the end of the day I got to do what’s best for my career. I’m too much of a competitor to be just out there," Hill said via the Miami Herald's Omar Kelly.

McDaniel downplayed Hill's comments during his own postgame press conference at the time.

“I’m not going to be too much weight on second hand postgame disappointment statements. We will see how next couple days progress in convos with him and I," McDaniel said via NFL Network's Cameron Wolfe.

Last December, Hill wrote, "It’s time for me to go coach," on his X account without additional context, which led to trade speculation and then posted, "I might get my first grey hair this year."

The eight-time Pro Bowler was acquired by the Dolphins in a sign-and-trade deal with the Kansas City Chiefs in 2022.
