Yavapai County Superior Court Judge Pro Tempore Kristyne Schaaf-Olson resigned after being cited for allegedly urinating in public near the courthouse where she served. The incident occurred on October 4, when Prescott police responded to reports of a woman relieving herself near Montezuma and Gurley Street, close to the Courthouse Plaza. Bodycam footage, obtained by Fox News, shows Schaaf-Olson pulling up her pants and sitting on a bench as officers approached.

The responding officer described the scene as "disgusting" and noted that Schaaf-Olson struggled to spell her name. Her husband, Jason Olson, who works as the parks and recreation manager for Chino Valley, arrived and attempted to intervene, leading to a confrontation with police. Jason Olson was cited for resisting arrest, interfering with a crime scene investigation, and obstruction of government operations.

Schaaf-Olson, who was appointed to her role in October 2023, announced her resignation effective October 31. In her statement, she cited "current physical, medical, and family circumstances" as reasons for stepping down, acknowledging that it would be challenging to fulfill her duties under the current conditions.

Presiding Judge John Napper expressed respect for her decision, and the Arizona Commission on Judicial Conduct is reviewing the matter. Jason Olson is scheduled to appear in court on November 18.
