Brandy and Ray J put all their differences aside during a heartfelt family moment onstage during the veteran singer's recent tour stop.
On Friday, October 31, Brandy and Monica's "The Boy Is Mine Tour" invaded Atlanta for a star-studded show at the State Farm Arena. Monica brought a handful of special guests from her hometown, including Ludacris and Jermaine Dupri, as well as her R&B counterparts Tank and Missy Elliott. All four seasoned artists filled the arena with their classic hits alongside Monica. However, when it came time to bring out her special guest, Brandy said she only had one — her brother, Ray J.
"family > everything," Ray J wrote after the moment went viral.
The touching end to Brandy and Monica's show in the A came after Ray J revealed how chaotic his relationship with his older sister has been in recent years. Earlier this year, he claimed Brandy "hates" him and apologized to her and his mother for being the way he is. A month later, he called himself an "embarrassment" to Brandy and their family on the Drop the Lo podcast. That same month, he claimed he didn't believe he was Brandy's brother anymore while on another podcast.
“You grow out of this first phase of life, and there's a second phase," Ray J explained on the Funky Friday podcast. "In the second phase, a lot of the people in the first phase are no longer there. It's like, a love changes, a thug changes, and best friends become strangers, and that's not me, Nas said that.”
“It's so accurate in today's time, and as you grow people grow, and you grow away,” he continued. “And when you grow away sometimes you're gone, sometimes it's done. And you try to get it back and try to understand this first wave of things, but when you're treated exactly like it was in the first wave then you understand what you have to do. So that's just where I'm at. I care, but I don't give a f**k.”
Brandy and Monica are currently touring the country with supporting acts Mýa, Kelly Rowland and Jamal Roberts. See more moments from Brandy and Monica's tour stop in Atlanta below.
