In Houston, Texas, the discovery of five bodies in local bayous between September 15 and 20 has sparked fears of a potential serial killer. However, officials have emphasized that there is no evidence linking the deaths. Houston Mayor John Whitmire and Police Chief J. Noe Diaz addressed these concerns, urging the public to rely on verified information rather than online speculation. Mayor Whitmire stated, "We do not have any evidence that there is a serial killer loose in Houston, Texas."

The bodies were found in separate locations, including Brays Bayou, Greens Bayou, White Oak Bayou, and Buffalo Bayou. Among the deceased was Jade "Sage" McKissic, a 20-year-old University of Houston student. Her body was discovered in Brays Bayou after she had been missing for four days. Police have ruled out foul play in her death, noting that her autopsy showed no signs of trauma.

Chief Diaz confirmed that a total of 14 bodies have been pulled from Houston's waterways this year. He stressed the importance of avoiding speculation and misinformation, which can cause unnecessary fear and anxiety in the community. The investigations into these cases are ongoing, with the cause and manner of death pending determination by the medical examiner's office.

Despite the rumors, officials continue to warn residents to exercise caution around the bayous, especially after storms, due to strong currents and hidden debris. According to The Independent, the mayor also highlighted issues such as alcohol use and mental health problems that can contribute to such incidents.
