New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields returned to practice on Thursday (September 25) and will start if he clears the NFL's concussion protocol ahead of his team's Monday Night Football game against the Miami Dolphins in Week 4, head coach Aaron Glenn told reporters.
"He still has to go through the whole protocol before he's totally cleared, but I like where he's at," Glenn said via ESPN.
Fields, 26, was permitted to participate in non-contract drills, specifically with the quarterbacks, on Thursday in adherence with concussion protocol. The former Ohio State standout missed last Sunday's (September 14) game after suffering a concussion in Week 2.
"He's in the protocol right now and it's always a hard one to really just try to evaluate until we get more information so I'm sure I'll be giving you guys more information as the week progresses," Glenn said during his press conference on September 15. The back of Fields' helmet slammed the turf when he was sacked by Bills defensive end Joey Bosa with 14 minutes remaining in the eventual 30-10 loss.
Veteran backup Tyrod Taylor, who took over at quarterback in Week 2, started in Week 3 and threw for 197 yards, two touchdowns and one interception on 26 of 36 passing, while also recording 48 yards on eight rushing attempts.
Fields had previously suffered a dislocated toe in his right foot during training camp, but appeared in two preseason games and started in each of the Jets' two regular season games in 2025.
