Jay Electronica made a stunning comeback by dropping a surprise album on his birthday.
On Friday, September 19, the revered lyricist delivered his third studio album, A Written Testimony: Leaflets via Roc Nation Distribution. The brief, seven-track project begins with "Abracadabra," featuring an intro from Sean "Diddy" Combs and words by Minister Louis Farrakhan over an instrumental crafted by Conductor Williams. It continues with unexpected collaborations with rapper/songwriter Quentin Miller and Virginia native DRAM. In "Who Killed Michael Jackson??????", Jay Elect and QM rap over a LoVibe beat, followed by a portion from U.S. Air Force veteran Jeffrey Nuccetelli's testimony about five alleged unidentified anomalous phenomena incidents at Vandenberg Air Force Base.
A Written Testimony: Leaflets is the New Orleans native's first album in five years. He shared the project on the same day as his 49th birthday. His surprise drop comes a few days after his previous projects, ACT I: Eternal Sunshine (the pledge) EP and ACT II: The Patents of Nobility (the turn), were uploaded to streaming services earlier this week.
In the years since his last album, Jay Electronica has collaborated with several notable artists, including Rory, Noname, Vic Mensa, and Tobi Nwigwe. In 2024, Jay Elect teamed up with Benny The Butcher, Black Thought, and Freeway for "Still Here," which is the intro to Vote Or Else's EP. He continued his feature run this year by appearing on Dave East & Ransom's The Final Call album and Swizz Beatz's Godfather of Harlem: Season 4 soundtrack. He also contributed to Chance the Rapper's Star Line album.
