New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields has been ruled out for Sunday's (September 21) game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers due to a concussion, head coach Aaron Glenn confirmed to reporters prior to Wednesday's (September 17) practice.
Glenn had previously confirmed that Fields was in concussion protocol after exiting in the fourth quarter of Sunday's (September 14) loss to the AFC East Division rival Buffalo Bills.
"He's in the protocol right now and it's always a hard one to really just try to evaluate until we get more information so I'm sure I'll be giving you guys more information as the week progresses," Glenn said in a clip shared by the Jets' official X account from his press conference on Monday (September 15).
The back of Fields' helmet slammed the turf when he was sacked by Bills defensive end Joey Bosa with 14 minutes remaining in the eventual 30-10 loss. Veteran backup Tyrod Taylor, who took over at quarterback in Week 2, will start in Sunday's game.
Taylor threw for 56 yards and one touchdown on 7 of 11 passing in garbage time. Fields finished the game with a team-best 49 yards on five rushing attempts, but threw for just 27 yards on 3 of 11 passing prior to his injury.
The former Ohio State standout had previously suffered a dislocated toe in his right foot during training camp, but appeared in two preseason games and started in each of the Jets' two regular season games in 2025.
