Boosie Badazz has officially pleaded guilty in his federal gun possession case.
The Baton Rouge, La. native appeared in a San Diego courtroom on Tuesday, August 26, to formally plead guilty to a single count of illegal gun ownership. He previously accepted a plea deal after police arrested him for possessing two weapons following a music video shoot in June 2023. He was originally charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm. According to Billboard, federal prosecutors agreed to drop a second gun charge and recommend a two-year prison sentence instead of a maximum 15-year sentence.
Federal prosecutors allege Boosie bought the Glock and “Hellcat” handguns in Georgia and then brought both weapons with him on his flight to San Diego. On the day he flew into the city, police were scoping out an alleged gang member at a music video shoot on Instagram Live when they spotted Boosie with a handgun tucked in his waistband. Police used a helicopter to follow Boosie into a local neighborhood, where they pulled him over. Officers found a separate black pistol in the vehicle and arrested Boosie on the spot.
State prosecutors originally dropped Boosie's case, but federal prosecutors filed their own charges against the rapper and arrested him. In 2024, his case was dismissed again after an appeals court ruled it unconstitutional to charge nonviolent convicts with gun possession charges for felons. However, prosecutors refiled their case with slight updates. Their case was supposed to go to trial, but Boosie decided to accept a plea deal after claiming he was "tired of fighting."
Boosie will face up to two years in prison and three years of supervised release after he completes his sentence. His sentencing hearing his scheduled for November.
