Snoop Dogg has inspired a lot of creations over the years, but it's the leftovers from his countless blunts that have helped create works of art that have sold for thousands of dollars.
VIBE reports that artist Erica Kovitz has transformed a trove of ashes, roaches, and other pieces from Snoop's joints into fine art pieces as part of her debut collection, Ashes To Art. According to her website, Kovitz's artwork is “a true holy grail for fine art collectors, Hip-Hop historians, and cannabis connoisseurs alike." Fans will have to buy their pieces quick because “once it’s gone, it’s gone.”
Since the collection debuted on Friday, August 15, Kovitz has sold all of her pieces. One pricy piece is known as Doggystyle Decoded and features an original Doggystyle CD. It was priced at $16,500, but was sold for $20,000. Other works of art include Tiphany Smokes, Golden Hour Cypher, Orange Chill, and White Whisper, which were all sold for $12,500 to $15,000. The lowest-priced piece, Pocket High Emerald, features a single smoked roach at the center of an emerald panel preserved in epoxy glass. The piece was sold for $10,000.
The most expensive item is called Snoop Doggy Dogg Genesis Burn. It contains Snoop Dogg's original 1993 mugshot with burned edges, marijuana ashes and sealed under a smoked roach burned by Snoop himself. It's the only work of art that Snoop Dogg personally signed with his original "Snoop Doggy Dog" moniker. It sold for $70,000.
Erica Kovitz and Snoop Dogg made all seven pieces through a partnership with The Joint Venture, which Kovitz co-founded. Check out a closer look at the rare works of art below.
