Kid Cudi Says His New Album Cover Is Inspired By This Classic 90s Movie

Kid Cudi has revealed the cover art of his upcoming album FREE before he drops the first single this week.

The Cleveland native debuted the album cover via X on Wednesday morning, July 9. In the artwork created by photographer Norman Jean Roy, Cudi appears to leap into a doorway that leads to cloudy, blue sky. The 41-year-old artist explained that the image was inspired by the classic 1998 film The Truman Show starring Jim Carrey.

"I wanted something that really expressed freedom, so the concept of me leaping into the clouds made so much sense," Cudi wrote.

"Inspired by The Truman Show," he added. "I cant WAIT for u guys to hear this album and really see the album art brought to life. You're in for a beautiful ride. Promise."

Kid Cudi revealed the cover art just days before the album's first single, "Grave," arrives on streaming services. In a video he posted to X, Cudi said he was "really excited" about the song as well as the official music video directed by Sam Bayer. He previously described the track as "classic Cudi vibes but still feels like something new."

Cudi has been teasing the album for quite some time, along with other ventures he's been cooking up. Earlier this month, Cudi said the project has no cursing and zero skips.

"I was listenin to the album last night and its the perfect album to just put on [and] listen straight thru," he wrote on X. "No skips. All winners. Im so f**kin proud of myself man. I really feel like this is gonna be one of them ones 😎"

Kid Cudi's next album FREE drops August 22. Look out for "Grave" and the visuals this Friday, July 11.
