The White House condemned former CNN reporter Jim Acosta after he made a joke about President Donald Trump's late ex-wive Ivana Trump during an appearance on Jennifer Rubin's The Contrarian podcast.
Acosta was discussing the 'No Kings' protests and deemed Trump as a hypocrite for his ICE raids targeting immigrants despite having been married to multiple immigrant wives including current wife, Melania Trump, a native of Slovenia, and his first, a native of then-Czechoslovakia, who Acosta reference being buried at the Trump National Golf Club Bedminster.
“Where are the ICE raids at the Trump properties? Could somebody call ICE on the Trump golf course in Virginia? You’re telling me there’s nobody in there that is undocumented or has some kind of squirreliness going on with their paperwork?” he said while speaking to Rubin and April Ryan in a clip shared by the Daily Caller's Jason Cohen. “Give me a break.”
“How many immigrants has he married? He’s got one buried at his golf course in New Jersey! Isn’t she buried by the first hole or the second tee or something like that?” Acosta added.
"Immigrants always doing the jobs that Americans don't want to do!" he joked.
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt issued a seething response to FOX News calling Acosta "a disgraceful human being."
Acosta, who famously pushed back at Trump while serving as CNN's chief White House correspondent during his first administration after the president's constant discrediting of the network as "fake news," specifically mentioned Trump during his sign-off in January.
“Don’t give into the lies, don’t give in to the fear hold on to the truth and to hope,” Acosta said while eventually referring to Trump as a "tyrant."
Trump celebrated Acosta's departure from the network in his initial response to the decision shared on his Truth Social account.
"Wow, really good news! Jim Acosta, one of the worst and most dishonest reporters in journalistic history, a major sleazebag, has been relegated by CNN Fake News to the Midnight hour, 'Death Valley' because of extraordinarily BAD RATINGS (and no talent!)," Trump wrote in January. "Word is that he wants to QUIT, and that would be even better. Jim is a major loser who will fail no matter where he ends up. Good luck Jim!"
