Audra McDonald has made Tony history.
On Thursday (May 1), the nominees for the 2025 Tonys were unveiled ahead of this year's ceremony on June 8 at Radio City Music Hall.
McDonald earned a nod this year for her role as Rose Hovick in the current Broadway revival of Gypsy. Thursday's announcement marks McDonald's eleventh career nomination, which makes her the most Tony-nominated performer in Broadway history. The actress was previously tied for the most Tony nominations at 10 with the late Julie Harris and Chita Rivera.
McDonald still holds the honor of the most awarded performer in Tony history, an accomplishment she earned in 2014 with six wins.
The Broadway star was first nominated for a Tony in 1994 for her performance as Carrie Pipperidge in Carousel. McDonald's Tony wins also come from her performances in 1996's Master Class, 1998's Ragtime, 2004's A Raisin in the Sun, 2012's Porgy and Bess, and 2014's Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill. She is the only performer to take home Tonys in leading and featured categories for both musicals and plays.
Fellow Tony winner Cynthia Erivo is set to host this year's ceremony, where McDonald could score her seventh Tony win.
