Bruno Mars & Anderson .Paak Form New Band Silk Sonic, Announce Album & Song

Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak have linked up for a brand-new music project.

Last night (February 25), the “Grenade” singer-songwriter and the “Put Me Thru” rapper and record producer announced their new band, called Silk Sonic.

The newly-minted duo is also putting out their first collaborative album, titled An Evening with Silk Sonic, with all-time great funk star and Parliament-Funkadelic bassist Bootsy Collins featuring as a special guest. What’s more, Silk Sonic’s first single, which has yet been given a name, will land next Friday (March 5).

Both artists have a history working together, having hit the road in 2017. At the time, a video surfaced on social media that appeared to place the two at Abbey Road Studios along with Nile Rodgers, sparking rumors of a potential collaboration.

This will be Mars’ first music project since unveiling his 2016 album, 24K Magic, which featured jams like “24K Magic,” “That’s What I Like,” “Versace on the Floor” and “Finesse." Mars claimed seven Grammys for the album, including Album of the Year and Best R&B Album.

For .Paak, this is his first project in two years, following the release of his album, Ventura, in 2019, which earned widespread acclaim from critics and debuted at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 chart, becoming his first album to reach the top 10 in the United States. An Evening with Silk Sonic will be his second collab project after previously unveiling 2016’s Yes Lawd! with Knxwledge, as the multi-genre duo NxWorries.
