Netflix Cancels Spike Lee's 'She's Gotta Have It' After Two Seasons

Spike Lee's She Gotta Have It has been nixed by Netflix, as per a new report from Variety.

The series, which was based on Lee's 1986 film of the same name, ran for two seasons. The most recent season premiered in May of this year. The famed filmmaker is expected to shop the series around to other outlets. She Gotta Have It starred DeWanda Wise as the free-spirit artist Nola Darling, who had to navigate her life in Brooklyn with several different romantic partners. Anthony Ramos starred as Mars Blackmon, Lyriq Bent as Jamie Overstreet, Cleo Anthony as Greer Childs, Margot Bingham as Clorinda "Clo" Bradford, Chyna Layne as Shemekka Epps, and De'Adre Aziza as Raqueletta Moss.

"Spike Lee is one of the greatest filmmakers of all time and we're thrilled he brought the series She's Gotta Have It (1986, based on his first feature film) to Netflix," Ted Sarandos, chief content officer at Netflix, said, per Variety. "While this is our last season, we're very proud that it will be on our service for years to come, and excited to be working with Spike on his upcoming Netflix film Da 5 Bloods."

The cancelation arrives after the TV streaming platform lost 130,000 subscribers in the United States during Q2. As for why the industry big-wig believed they took a dip, it seems like they've cited their "content" as one of the reasons for the decline in subscribers.
