Jussie Smollett Posts On Instagram For First Time Since Alleged Attack

Jussie Smollett is back! Well, back on social media at least.

The former Empire star returned to Instagram on Monday (June 10), sharing his first post since his alleged January attack.

To mark his return to the social media platform, Jussie posted a clip of Tarell Alvin McCraney's speech at the 2019 Tony Awards, which was held on Sunday (June 9), where he talked about black queerness while introducing his play, Choir Boy. "@octarell_again 🙏🏾 So much #PRIDE," the controversial actor captioned his first IG post since January 28, the day before his alleged homophobic and racist attack. (To note: the comments were disabled for the post)

As fans know, the 34-year-old actor has been keeping a low-profile since he was accused of staging the alleged hate crime against himself for attention and monetary gain. Jussie, who has maintained his innocence, was charged with 16 felony counts of disorderly conduct for the alleged staged attack, however, all charges were dropped against him in March.

Jussie's attack controversy appeared to affect his work as Fox announced that Empire's upcoming sixth season will be the show's last in May. "We're turning the final season of Empire into a large television event. If you look at what we're doing with Empire... we really are trying to go out guns a-blazing," Fox Entertainment CEO Charlie Collier told reporters (via Entertainment Tonight) on a press call. "One of the great benefits of announcing a final season is to allow the fans to lean in and to have the ending they deserve, and that's everything we're trying to do with this iconic series. Six years is a pretty remarkable run for a drama series and we feel good about it."

Charlie added, the final season will be "epic" and filled with even more "shocking surprises and jaw-dropping moments." However, he made it clear that a Jussie return was almost certainly off the table. "At this point, we have no plans for that. The writer's room for next season hasn’t even gathered yet," he said.
