The 56-year-old alleged burglar who got his ass whooped by LL Cool J last week just appeared in court … finally revealing his bruises from his painful encounter at the rapper’s L.A. home.

The transient in question — a man named Jonathan Kirby — is still sporting two black eyes … presumably from the nose-breaking punch LL delivered on the night Kirby broke into his home last week.

During the hearing, Kirby pled “not guilty” to 1st degree burglary with a person present.

As we reported, the L.A. County District Attorney charged Kirby as a 3rd strike offender, which means Kirby now faces life in prison if convicted.

Kirby’s bail was set at $1.1 million. A preliminary hearing has been set for next month.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — LL Cool J plays a special agent on TV’s “NCIS: Los Angeles,” and now he’s caught an actual bad guy.
The 44-year-old rapper struggled with and subdued a suspected burglar early Wednesday morning at his home in the Studio City area, police said. He was not hurt.
Police got a 911 call shortly before 1 a.m. from someone who said her father had spotted an intruder in their home and was holding him downstairs.
“There was a prowler at his residence whom he confronted in the kitchen. … There was a physical confrontation briefly between the two of them,” LAPD spokesman Richard French said.
A 58-year-old man was taken to the hospital and was expected to be arrested on suspicion of burglary. His identity wasn’t released but there was no indication that he knew LL Cool J or had a personal vendetta, French said.
“He appeared to be a homeless person,” French said.
Early police information said the man received minor bruises. However, the Los Angeles Times (lat.ms/OS63xL) cited police sources it did not identify as saying the suspect received a broken nose and jaw in a “knock-down, drag-out” fight.
French said he had no details about the man’s injuries or how he may have gotten into the home, a walled and gated mansion in a wealthy hillside section of the San Fernando Valley that’s not far from major studios.
“LL Cool J, and his family, are safe and thank everyone for their thoughts and concern,” said a statement released by his publicist, Rhett Usry. “As a father, husband and citizen, he is committed to keeping his family safe and is cooperating with authorities on this private matter.”
LL Cool J, whose real name is James Todd Smith, has had such hits such as “Mama Said Knock You Out” and “I’m Bad.”

While Lupe Fiasco hung out in Big Boy’s Neighborhood, he did something unconventional — he cut off a lock of his hair and gave it away via @BigBoy’s Twitter. He discussed why he decided to grow his hair out, plus speaks on paving the way for rapper/skateboarders.

So far, it’s not clear if the death is related to the rapper’s battle with cancer.

Russell Simmons’ website GlobalGrind.com first reported the death. We have spoken to people independently connected to the rapper who also say he is dead.

MCA co-founded Beastie Boys in 1979 with Mike D, and Ad Rock … and went on to churn out some of the most iconic albums in hip-hop … including License to Ill, Paul’s Boutique, Check Your Head and Ill Communication.

The group has won multiple Grammys and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame earlier this year.

MCA recently became a vegan at the recommendation of his Tibetan doctors.

The Beastie Boys’ most recent music video was released last year for the song “Make Some Noise” — and it stars a laundry list of A-listers, including Rashida Jones, Will Arnett, Rainn Wilson, Amy Poehler, Steve Buscemi, Kirsten Dunst, Zach Galifianakis, Orlando Bloom, Will Ferrell, John C. Reilly, and Jack Black.

Yauch is survived by his wife and daughter. He was 47.

Tragic rapper Nate Dogg is reportedly set to appear at the Coachella festival in California this weekend (15Apr12) – as a hologram.
The hip-hop star, real name Nathaniel Dwayne Hale, passed away in March, 2011, after suffering complications from multiple strokes.

However, the 41 year old is set to rise from the dead for the much-hyped music festival and “perform” a short set with his former 213 bandmate Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre on Sunday (15Apr12) during their all-star headlining set.

According to Tmz.com, the late rapper’s image will be projected onto a large screen beside the stage, allowing both artists to complete their gig with the support of the hitmaker’s vocals.

Reports suggest Snoop and Nate’s 213 bandmate Warren G, Eminem and Wiz Khalifa will join the headliners on stage for their two Coachella shows, spread out over two weekends.

Iconic rapper/producer Aesop Rock will return with his first solo LP in five years, Skelethon, on July 10th via Rhymesayers. The follow-up to 2007′s None Shall Pass, the 15-track effort “follows in the wake of several deep personal losses and highlights subject matter that deals with the sometimes-futile ways people try to cope with serious issues,” according to a press release.

The record features cameos from Hanni El Khatib, Kimya Dawson, Rob Sonic, DJ Big Wiz, and Rock’s wifey Allyson Baker of Dirty Ghosts (whose latest LP was produced by Rock). Peep the full tracklist below, followed by the music video for “None Shall Pass”.

A Tribe Called Quest star Q-Tip has signed to rapper Kanye West’s record label.
The hip-hop icon’s much-anticipated new album The Last Zulu will be released on West’s imprint G.O.O.D. Music, which is also home to the likes of John Legend, Kid Cudi and Mos Def.
The new deal reunites Q-Tip with Tribe Called Quest’s former label boss and Jive Ceo Barry Weiss, who recently took control of Island/Def Jam – the company overseeing West’s imprint.
Weiss says, “I am thrilled to be working with Q-Tip once again. He is a respected voice in the music community as shown by his acclaimed solo albums and countless contributions to the work of other artists. His creativity continues to surpass all boundaries of hip-hop, R&B, pop, and jazz. We welcome Q-Tip to the G.O.O.D. Music/Island Def Jam family.”
Q-Tip recently developed a close relationship with West after producing tracks on the rapper’s latest album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and the 42 year old is thrilled about the new venture.
He adds, “I’m humbled to be a part of such a storied history. To reconnect with Barry Weiss is a great thing. As far as G.O.O.D. Music, I’m excited to solidify my working relationship with Kanye, and I look forward to all the opportunities that lie ahead in our partnership. I will do my best to present the most cutting edge music I can.”
Q-Tip’s last album, Kamaal/The Abstract, was released in 2009.
