I’m a listener from San Diego. The morning show always share views on important topics in a entertaining way. I think it is important to touch upon the barriers that still exist when it comes to cultural, generational, spiritual and other barriers for our emerging leaders in the nation today. Last year, of the 2010 SD Metro Magazine 40 Under 40 Award leadership winners not one was African American. In response the Urban League of San Diego County created a 2010 Forty Under 40 Inspired Leaders of Tomorrow Awards to acknowledge it’s urban leaders who are primarily of color. This year, Alice Benjamin (me), an African American and advanced practice nurse has been inducted into the 2011 SD Metro Magazine 40 Under 40 awards. Considering the numerous and tedious struggles I’ve endured to be where I am today I believe it is very note worthy to share my story. I’m a single parent, first generation to attend college, has endured medical struggles yet beyond my role at work I still graduated with honors, is still the ULSDC Young Professionals president, Health Chair for the SDNAACP, president of the San Diego Critical Care Nurses Assoc. (the local chapter of the LARGEST nursing specialty organization in the world) and an avid community advocate and leader who champions health & wellness through community events and social media- http://www.AskNurseAlice.net especially in underserved communities similar to those that I grew up in.
I also think this is note worthy of mention bc it demonstrates that African Americans (and other minorities) still often endure far more obstacles to achieve success and are still far underrepresented and acknowledged as community and professional leaders in the eye of the public. The SD Metro Magazine 40 Under 40 award ceremony is Sept 13, 2011 at the San Diego Convention Center.
I love listening to the neighborhood but this car fight between Krystal n Rikky is just plain dumb. Where is Liz Hernandez, bring her back…we don’t need two more pretty faces with no brains making women look dumb.
I have a eating problem and wanted to know how you did it Big Boy , my name is Anthony and if you could help me out, and itll also be a blessng for me to be a part of the crew. My number is 5043447764
